Not rollin’ over and playin’ dead

[We are] pulling on the president’s shirttails to make sure that he doesn’t move from center-right to far-right.  We think if he’d done less compromising in the last two years, there’s a good chance we’d have had a jobs bill that would have created real jobs, and then we wouldn’t even be worrying about having lost elections.

co-chair of House Progressive Caucus

Or is it better to continue a losing strategy?

Is that nice to say?

I don’t want to concede that we have to get used to this kind of thing, because I don’t think the majority of Americans want to put up with the blue-bloods — and I want to say it will all due respect because I love the Bushes — the blue-bloods who want to pick and choose their winners instead of allowing competition.

she should stay in Alaska

Could you imagine the uproar in the media if a Dem referred to the GOP’s leading family as “blue-bloods”?

Rich and famous … victims

Going out there and winning this would mean a lot. It would be like a big middle finger to all the people out there who hate my mom and hate me.

The Matriarch speaks

I sat next to her once, thought she was beautiful.  And I think she’s very happy in Alaska — and I hope she’ll stay there.

U.S.=Cuba?

I am here today as a fellow American whose parents were born in a country that lost itself to socialism.  My parents lost their country to a government; I will not lose mine to a government.”

Impunity

The agent was unable to identify any terrorism subjects at the event, but he photographed a woman in order to have something to show his supervisor.  He told us he had spoken to a woman leafletter at the rally who appeared to be of Middle Eastern descent, and that she was probably the person he photographed.

opposed to Bush Administration policies, under guise
of “counterterrorism” operations

FBI personnel were not punished either for the abuses nor for lying about them afterwards.

You can’t make this stuff up

Please hear this: I have been accused. I’m under attack. I want you to know that I am not a perfect man, but this thing I’m gon’ fight.  …  I feel like David against Goliath, but I’ve got five rocks, and I haven’t thrown one yet.

A bad egg

We were horrified to learn our eggs may have made people sick.  I’ve prayed several times a day for all these people for improved health.

A real education

RESOLVED by the SBOE [Texas School Board of Education], that diverse reviewers have repeatedly documented gross pro-Islamic/anti-Christian distortions in Social Studies texts; that Social Studies TEKS [guidelines] cannot provide relief, because they tell what a course should cover, not all it should avoid; that under Texas Education Code §28.002(h) and (i), the SBOE must enforce “the basic democratic values of our state and national heritage;” that chronic partiality to one of the world’s great religions, and animus against another, flout democratic values and the letter and spirit of this rule; and that Texas Administrative Code §66.66(c)(4) provides, “[N]o instructional material may be adopted that contains content that clearly conflicts with the stated purpose of the Texas Education Code, §28.002(h)” (emphasis added); and be it further RESOLVED, That the SBOE will look to reject future prejudicial Social Studies submissions that continue to offend Texas law with respect to treatment of the world’s major religious groups by significant inequalities of coverage space-wise and/or by demonizing or lionizing one or more of them over others, as in the above-cited instances.

– Resolution before the Texas Education Board
September 2010

Among the textbook lines that offended the resolution’s sponsors: “Crusaders massacred some European Jews.”
